Widespread pain, the type that is associated with fibromyalgia, does not discriminate. Affected artists and veterinarians as combat. Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican artist of the decade of 1930, suffered a near fatal bus accident that broke his pelvis and spine. The accident was experiencing chronic pain for the rest of his life. Doctors at the American College of Rheumatology now suggest he may have had fibromyalgia. In those days, however, fibromyalgia is unknown probably no way to diagnose.

Researchers now have some data on veterans of the first Gulf War.
