HIV Medication Fact Sheets

hiv medication 300x201 HIV Medication Fact SheetsThis section of our website is provided as a quick reference. We recommend you to discuss your concerns with your doctor about medication.

IMPORTANT! – Always remember to take prescribed medications and not change or stop taking medications without first talking to your doctor.

* Integrase inhibitors
Integrase is an enzyme that does what its name suggests, incorporates HIV genetic material into the DNA of human CD4 cells to the infected cell to make new copies of HIV. By interfering with integrase in the life cycle of inhibitors of HIV integrase prevent HIV’s genetic material for integration in the CD4 cell, preventing viral replication.

O Isentress – raltegravir

Entry Inhibitors *
Entry inhibitors work by interfering with the entry of HIV into the CD4 cell. By interfering with the input stage of the life cycle of inhibitors of HIV entry blocking HIV replication.

O Fuzeon – enfuvirtide
Fuzeon injection instructions or
or Maraviroc – Selzentry; CELSENTRI – CCR5 inhibitor

* Inhibitor reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs)
non-nucleoside transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) work by binding strongly to the enzyme reverse transcriptase, which prevents viral RNA to convert the viral DNA that infects healthy cells.

or Intelence – etravirine – again
or Viramune – nevaripine
or Rescriptor – Delavirdine
or Sustiva – efavirenz

* Nucleotide analogues
Since nucleoside analogues, such as Retrovir (AZT) and Videx (didanosine), nucleotide analogues that inhibit reverse transcriptase. However, they are active in its native form, unlike nucleoside that work only in cells that have the machine to activate the drug by a process called phosphorylation. This means that the nucleotide analogues may be active against HIV in an infected cell line.

O Viread – tenofovir
or Atripla – tenofovir emtricitabine Sustiva

* Protease inhibitors (PI)
Protease inhibitors stop HIV replication by inhibiting virus protease cuts in the shorter pieces you need to make copies of itself. incomplete copies, defective form which can not infect cells.

O Prezista – Darunavir
or Crixivan – indinavir
or Invirase – saquinavir
or Norvir – ritonavir
or Viracept – nelfinavir
200/50 or Kaletra – lopinavir Norvir
or Reyataz – atazanavir
or Lexiva – fosamprenavir
or Aptivus – tipranavir

* Inhibitors of nucleoside reverse transcriptase (NRTI)
Inhibitors, nucleoside reverse transcriptase (NRTIs) work by being incorporated into viral DNA, making it ineffective. These compounds inhibit the replication of retroviruses by interfering with the enzyme reverse transcriptase. nucleoside analogs cause premature termination of DNA chain (precursor virus) proviral.

Combivir or – Epivir Retrovir
or Epivir – lamivudine
or Zerit – stavudine
or Hivid – zalcitabine
or Videx EC – didanosine
Retrovir or – AZT, zidovudine
O Ziagen – abacavir
or Trizivir – abacavir Epivir Retrovir
or Emtriva – emtricitabine
Or Epzicom – Abacavir Lamivudine
or Truvada – emtricitabine tenofovir

Combination medicines *
In an effort to improve patient compliance and make it easier to take medicine every day, many drugs are combined in a single tablet or capsule. Fewer pills each day has been shown to improve the adhesion of which we know improves the effectiveness of HIV programs.

or Atripla – efavirenz, emtricitabine, tenofovir
or Kaletra – lopinavir Norvir
or Combivir – lamivudine zidovudine
or Trizivir – abacavir lamivudine zidovudine
Or Epzicom – Abacavir Lamivudine
or Truvada – emtricitabine tenofovir

Several anti-HIV *
New and old drugs that do not correspond to any of the above categories.

or Hydrea – hydroxyurea – inhibit HIV by inhibiting the reproduction of cellular factors that HIV needs to reproduce.
